What a busy first couple months we have had. Kindergarteners have been developing a variety of skills such as; learning to cooperate, share, build friendships, be safe, play, and discover what it is like to be in school. We have also been working on our literacy and math skills by starting with writing our name, reading books using pictures to tell our story, sorting objects by colour and size, counting collections, and exploring shapes in our world. September also included discussions on why we acknowledge Orange Shirt Day. We read several books that explained to us how students felt when they attended residential school and how we feel coming to school. Some of the adjectives students used to describe how they feel at school were; happy, safe, calm, brave, and excited. Kindergarten also joined the school in celebrating Canadian hero, Terry Fox. We discussed how Terry Fox was different from a super hero and what it means to be a hero in real life. Students participated in the Terry Fox run around the school field to honour this Canadian hero.
