Oki Kindergarten families! I hope everyone has been safe and healthy this past week. I have missed my kindergarteners so much! The classroom was so quiet and lonely without them. However, I want to highlight the amazing work we have been doing prior to Spring Break! After our return from the winter break we really kicked it into high gear in room 21. We began to some new winter themed table centers which allowed us to practice our writing, story-telling, fine motor, counting, and patterning skills. Kindergarteners practiced these centers for most of January and February. I was so proud of how hard each student worked and how much growth they experienced while working on these centers. Take a look at some of our activities! In January we also began beading necklaces to give as gifts to our guests for the Beaver Bundle opening which happened February 8th. Ms. Sheena taught us how to make a floral design necklace and the students chose the patterns they wanted on their necklaces. This task developed strong patterning skills and understanding in our students. We began our necklaces by planning them out in our visual journals and then finding the beads that matched the colours we wanted. Check out the hard work! We have also committed to spending time learning on the land this winter. We were fortunate enough to have Ms. Danica join us on our nature walks each Wednesday where kindergarteners got to explore nature and the community around us. We looked for shapes in nature, colours, counted trees, learned how to tell if a tree was old or young, what evidence we can see of animals in our community, and simply took the time to just listen to the earth and the sounds we hear outside.
